Okay… now I know that a lot of people are going to tell me that I need to go to a real dance class and I need extra help, but truth be told I really don’t have the money to and I am a really good dancer. My first dance class was free when I joined Color Guard at my high school two years ago. Then, since our school let us take dance as a PE credit, I took a semester of dance which was a legit dance class. But then I moved and started going to school online and no longer had access to these learning resources.

I don’t know if anybody has tried but there are these at home dance class DVD that I bought off of amazon and I think they have really been helping. My ballet vocabulary has expanded and I am going to look into finding some jazz class DVD’s next. However, as I am doing these DVDs I am finding a lot of trouble spots that the internet is not very clear on how to fix or build.

Problem number one: I am flat footed. And I man duck feet flat. I have zero arch. On top of having flat feet I am also bow legged which I hear also causes problems. I know I am more prone to injuries. In fact I have hurt the left side of my calf after trying a move for color guard when I landed on the side of my foot. My old dance teacher also informed of the same risks. Is there any way to reduce the risk of injury with these conditions? I know unless I have surgery (never going to happen) the conditions will not completely go away but is there any way to make it better?

Problem number two: My pirouettes stink. I can do a single. Always have been able too, probably always will. I just can’t get passed that. I need any help I can get to improve them. I have tried improving balance (which is something else I need help with) and strengthening my core.

Problem number three: Developpes! Now I have a little height but not much. How do I improve developpe? I have the flexibility to do them. I have all of my splits (working on middle) and I actually have over splits. I am just having trouble with the strength part.

Any help with these would be greatly appreciated! I know I don’t have as many years of practice but it would really help me to understand some of the above concepts. Thank you!
