    Hi everyone!

I guess i’m the first to post here. I just saw my first ballet performance, the nutcracker, a few days ago! I saw it by the major ballet here in seattle, pacific northwest ballet. I, as well as my 2 younger kids, were blown away!!

Any other suggestions on some ballets that I could bring my kids to again? I did see the movie black swan, and (speaking some ignorance) am hoping not all the ballets are that dark! Nutcracker was perfect, but its obviously only during the holidays.

This time i may be able to drag the hubby.

    hello @newballetfan,

Ballet is actually quite kid friendly!! don’t let a terrible movie like black swan keep you from going with your kids.

any of the big story ballets like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, and Swan Lake are all great. In fact, thats where my user name comes from, Swan lake that is.

there is occasional “violence” like sword fights in some ballets, but its never anything graphic and tastefully done. (not like black swan, ahem)

    Hi!

That’s great. I was guessing those ballets were all safe, but i had read a little about black swan and not knowing much, was wondering if the actual swan lake was anything like that.

Do they follow the plot-lines of the Disney movies? or are they a whole separate thing? Sorry if thats a silly question.

I was just looking at pacific northwest ballet’s website and it looks like they’re dancing Sleeping Beauty sometime in February!

Well, they are ages 7 and 10, and both girls, so I think it may be doable! Grace, my younger one I think enjoyed it the more than my older, Jessica.

Maybe I’ll call over to the ballet to see how long it is, but it should be great.

Thanks!! I think I’m talking with real live ballerinas.

I agree, most ballets are family friendly. If they weren’t, it’d be hard to make some ticket sales!

Just be aware, some ballets are very long… Swan lake being one of them. Depending on the version, and the amount of acts and intermissions. Sleeping Beauty is actually typically long too. It’s almost always 3 acts, so that means two intermissions.

If your kids have long attention spans, this is great! If they don’t you may want to wait a bit. The nutcracker is great because most versions move very quickly, especially in Act 2 with all the different divertissements.

The disney movies are disney movies and the ballets are ballets. the ballets are usually closer to the actual stories.
