Cavalier is a classical ballet term that refers to the male partner of a ballerina. While this may be the general definition, the role of the cavalier is often referenced to the partner of the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker. While this may cause a little confusion, the definition can be more understood to mean “the male role who’s character has no story or background, though is featured while partnering a ballerina performing a leading role.”
