Csárdás is a classical ballet term that is simply the name for the national dance of Hungary. A typical csárdás is has two sections, a slow (lassú) and fast (friska) movement.
It was first introduced in ballets as a character dance in the first act of Coppélia in 1870. Csárdás dancers typically wear boots or heeled shoes which adds to the style and steps. Rarely done in a tutu, possibly besides Raymonda, women will usually wear a longer dress with a more “character style.”
