Danseur is a classical ballet term simply meaning “male dancer.” There are several variations or types of danseur.
Premier Danseur means “First Dancer” and is a title for a leading male dancer of a company. The Paris Opera Ballet company uses the rank of premier danseur étoile for their top male position, meaning “First Star Dancer.”
Danseur Noble is also a term sometimes used to describe a male ballet dancer who has a particular strength for classical style and roles such as Albrecht in Giselle or Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake.
