What does Enveloppé translate to?

enveloped

Enveloppé is a classical ballet term meaning “enveloped.”  This step or movement can be considered the opposite of développé.

When a dancer performs an enveloppé, they start with the working leg stretched to either the front, side or back.  The leg is then brought into either cou-de-pied or passé and then usually closed to fifth position.
