Academy of Ballet was founded by Lynne Thompson in 1984. This same year she was invited to join the Ballet Faculty at BYU. Her reputation as a teacher, both in Seattle and in Utah is far-reaching, going back over 48 years. A student of ballet since she was 3, her refined technique and the power behind her teaching came from many hours of intensive private instruction on ballet teaching methods from master and mentor, Ivan Novikoff. Ivan danced with the Russian Imperial Ballet and his influence was felt throughout the northwest of the United States and lives on through Lynne and her students.
