Western Arkansas Ballet (WAB), a nonprofit organization, was founded July 23, 1979, as the Fort Smith Civic Ballet and reorganized in August 1985, under the present logo and code of ethics. WAB Company utilizes dancers under contract for all productions, with dancers selected from open auditions. The Academy of Western Arkansas Ballet offers classes for company and non-company members in ballet, jazz and tap at the WAB studios in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Our Instructors currently teach over 150 students in the following curriculum: Creative Movement (ages 4-5); Ballet I (6–7); Ballet II (8 – 9); Ballet III (10 & up); Ballet IV (12 & up); Ballet V (13 & up); Ballet VI (14 & up); Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Pointe (by invitation only); Beginning Jazz (8–9) Intermediate Jazz (10 & up); Advanced Jazz (12 &d up); Modern (11 & up); Tap I (6–7); Tap II (8–9); Tap III (10 & up); and Athletic Conditioning for Boys. WAB received grant funding from the Arkansas Arts Council (AAC) to teach a creative movement class for four and five year olds at the Lincoln Childcare Center, a nonprofit organization designed to serve the low-income community and later when funding was discontinued absorbed the total cost of providing the lessons as part of its mission. WAB has also been dedicated to other outreach programs including summer programs at Girls, Inc. of Fort Smith, including yearly partnering a scholarship for at least one local girl.

Performing Opportunities
During its 2013-2014 season, WAB will produce performances of The Nutcracker, a full-length Spring Ballet, and the Spring Dance Concert. The Nutcracker consists of both a public performance and one for area third graders. The "Meet the Artist” event, held immediately following one performance, allows children to meet the lead performers of The Nutcracker cast in costume. The Spring Dance Concert provides a window view of the discipline of the dance academy.
