I go to American Ballet Theatre. There were auditions for Nutcracker, so I obviously auditioned. They pulled me upstairs to audition for Clara (or in some cases Maria). I didn’t know I was auditioning for the main role. They decided to have a principal dancer for Clara, and then have occasional students for Clara. There was also a back-up. Two different girls got Clara. :( But I took it well and went on as a party girl. They again separated me from the group and told me to be the back-up Clara! I was super excited and attended every single rehearsal. They interviewed us multiple times. I wasn’t down to not get Clara the first time, nor was I upset to only be the back-up. I was grateful to even be asked to do the part. Always remember to be thankful for what you got. They need you as much as you need them.
