My daughter is 8 years old and is now learning an trying to master Pirouettes BUT her glasses keep falling off. So now she seems apprehensive in her turns… Is there anyone who’s child has gotten contacts at the age of 8 for them ? We are considering it…

Yes, definitely! My daughter was in the same boat, but at age 9. It will help a lot and not just for pirouettes. Especially when she starts performing on stage with dances that shes moving around and jumping more. She simply won’t need to worry about her glasses falling off.

The biggest thing we were told that we had to teach her, and it turned out to be no big deal, was managing her lenses all day at school when we weren’t around. If your DD struggles a little, its fine, just let her wear them for ballet, then back to glasses when shes not dancing until she gets the hang of putting them in at a moment’s notice at school.

I have a student who wears glasses. She doesn’t have a problem with them in class, but when we compete she wears a clear strap that keeps the glasses from falling off.

Here’s a link to a site that mentions them: http://www.amblyopiakids.com/2012/08/i-spy-speccles-strap-clear-glasses.html

    I hope that helps!

Thank you for the suggestions. I was really apprehensive, especially after another ballerina mother maid a sarcastic remark about my daughter being too young but after talking to her Ballet Teacher ( who also started wearing them at 9 yr of age) and her optometrist, we went ahead and tried contacts. Little difficult at first but after 40 minutes she figured it out and was very pleased. She felt better at rehearsal ” one less thing to worry about ” she said.

She will only wear them for ballet class, rehearsal and her shows for now.. Still went back to glasses next day.

Thank you again ladies for your advice :)
