Hello guys! I am a parent of a 17 year old girl who is interested in started to get into ballet competitions, especially the ones overseas. I know they can be very difficult and stressful and I was wondering if its just too much pressure for a girl. She is tough, like her mom :), but I’m still nervous about them.

Hi! I have competed in a few IBCs, both her in the US and overseas. My opinion on them that all in all they are good for kids or professionals. You get to see a ton of dancers from all over the world which is great. Also, it give the dancer a lot of experience and teaches them how to handle pressure, because there is a lot of pressure when you are performing.

As long as she has realistic goals and has the right frame of mind she can really benefit from it.

She is a talented girl but also understands that there is talent all over the world. I think her goal is not to win but to just perform to her best ability, and if she wins than awesome! :-)

She is also wanting to start auditioning for companies soon so would this be a good way to get exposure?

Yes it is a good what to get seen. Especially if she competes in some of the IBCs here… Well I guess that depends on if she wants to dance here or overseas. But either way lots of people from the dance world come to see the competitions so it is a great way to get exposure.

Is she thinking of going with a partner or by herself?

Right now she would be going by herself but would love to go with a partner if she could. Not a lot of boys where we are!

Either way I do think it is beneficial for her. She will gain a lot of experience from it.

Yes competition, improves the performance of the child. It also teaches a child how to accept the defeat and strive to win in the is competitive environment. The kids also need to be involved in various different activities. You can find lots of different activities on kidsfront.com.
