I am a 57 year old woman. I’m in good shape, athletic, and flexible. One of the items in my “bucket list” was to take a ballet class, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone, and sign up. Being a studious type in high school, I never took any dance.

The surprising thing was the realization that most dance schools limit enrollment to those 18 and younger. Many state 13+ on a particular class level, but when you call, they indicate that the classes are limited to teens.

Do adults not study ballet, so the market isn’t there? Why don’t schools open their high school classes to adults?

    Enquiring minds want to know.

    Thanks

I was definitely surprised by how hard it is to find adult ballet classes, but don’t give up! You’ll definitely find one eventually!

This might be an obvious question, but have you tried specifically searching “Adult Ballet Classes in *Insert City*”?
After searching through the list of results, that’s how I was able to find a class for myself!

If you’ve already tried that, I would maybe consider emailing a ballet studio and asking if they know of any other studios in your area that offer adult ballet classes.

Wish you luck on your search!

    Try your local community college!

I’m at community college studying STEM, and received a scholarship in which I must be enrolled in at least 12 units. A math and science together only adds up to 10. What did I do? Well, signed up for ballet! I have positively fallen IN LOVE with it too, which I wasn’t expecting. There are people of all ages in my class, from 18-50 I would say.

And you bet I’ll be signing up for Ballet 2 in the fall.

Which City do you live in???? Should be easy to find ballet classes for adults in any large to medium size city! My class is practically full around 15 adults at each class everything from absolute beg to adv and I live in Rochester, NY I think there are around 4-5 adult classes going on in my area and Rochester is medium size! Hope you find an awesome class somewhere!! Good luck!
