Hello beautiful & creative Ballet Moms! I’m feeling a little frustrated because I am finding it really difficult to get quality information about how to cover my daughters tutus. I really want her to have a professional tutu base, but I was hoping to be able to save some money {long
term} by learning how to cover and decorate the tutus myself. Has anybody else done this? How did you learn? Any advice? Thoughts?

Hi! I’ve done a lot of costuming for my students and I’ve made multiple tutus! Decorating is the best part. Pinterest is a great place to gather visuals to help you get an idea of what you want. If you’re on a budget but have a vision for lace or appliqués or beading, go see if you can find an old wedding dress or evening gown at a thrift store – you can cut lace or beading or other detail work and arrange it on your tutu and sew it on by hand to decorate. I’ve made several tutus this way – check them out on instagram @reflexartsdance!

Oh thank you so much for your reply! I will definitely pop onto that Instagram address and take a look! Do many mothers do this? Or do they just buy the tutu already decorated? I am just worried that my daughters tutu wont look as professional as some of the other girls, but we are a bit tight with money at the moment? Are there any quality online tutorials or something that you know about? Im really keen to learn proper sewing techniques for the long term. Or do you just learn through trial and error? Thank you again for taking the time to help! I really appreciate it!
