I am the first one posting.

My 14 year old daughter is starting to get picked on a little in one of her ballet classes. She seems to be taking it fine for now but I know if it continues it’s really going to not only effect her but her ballet studies also. I’m concerned and am thinking of going to her teacher. Nothing bad has happened yet but I just want to be on top of this. Is this the right thing to do or should I try and let my daughter handle it for now?

Hi! I know what you’re going through. My 13 year old had had her hard times as well with the girls in her class. As hard as it may be I think the best thing to do is to try and let her handle it at first. If they start to really bully her or make her feel uncomfortable then of course go the her teacher or the owner of the school. But for now try and let your daughter fix this before you get involved. You may make the other girls in her class even upset with her.

I liked to give my advice too! Jealousy is something every girl has to deal with in ballet. Sometimes your jealous of someone and other times someone is jealous of you. Its a hard part of the ballet world but a part none the less.

Your daughter seems like she’s strong and will be able to handle this on her own. And its important for her to stand up for herself!

That is what I was thinking of doing. My daughter does have a good head on her shoulders, especially for a 14 year old, and I definitely think she can handle this on her own.

It’s too bad that if she continues with ballet she will have to deal with “mean girls” and jealousy but it is what she loves.

    Thanks.
