Well remember just because there are boarding schools for ballet doesnt mean they dance all day. you still have to go to high school and some offer home schooling.

Thats a good amount of time for ballet classes. I take about the same but am in my senior year and about to turn 18. I dont know if ill make it to be a pro but thats okay because i really want to go to college to study to become a marine biologist! :)

But I go to a “pre-professional” school that is very disciplined and has great teachers and thats as much that is offered. We dont have any guys, so theres no pas de deux class. If you want to get more serious, theres boarding schools like Harid or SAB that have year-round programs that have great training and will also have lots of classes. My friend left our school and is at SAB now and she loves it :)

Hey frenchtwist! It really depends on what kind of company you’re looking for. Some contemporary companies do look for ballet training and pointe work while other don’t require it as much. If I was you I would just do some research and look for companies that interest you. I’m sure they mention it on their website how much ballet training is needed.

    Good luck with your search!

Exactly! You really start to feel much more connect to the ground without shoes between you. I promise that when you get used to it, you will love it! I feel my center better as well and feel a lot more stable.

Hello again frenchtwist! I guess we are 2 contemporary/modern dancers and need to have eachothers back! ;)

Getting used to bare feet while dancing is hard. It just takes time to, like you said, build callouses and get your feet used to it. It really is so different. Even just standing in bare feet feels different than with shoes on.

And by the way, when you get used to it, its so much better than wearing those foot thongs! I hate those things!
